ABSTRACT

In this study, the effect of supplementing rice straw substrate with chicken manure, on yield of mushrooms in Pleurotus florida has been investigated. The greatest weight and number of fruit bodies were obtained from 15% supplementation. Un-supplemented substrate, that is 0% supplementation, gave the next greatest yield in terms of weight. But in terms of number or fruit bodies, was 9.1 and 1.6 in 0% and 15% supplementation respectively. Marrying quantity and quality, the un-supplemented substrate produced better mushrooms. The implications of these results are discussed in relation to earlier works in this regard.
