Comparative Performance Of High And Low Weight Lines Of F Backcross Normal Feather, Naked Neck And Frizzle Hybrid Chicken In The Humid Tropics.

ABSTRACT

A study was conducted to evaluate the performance of high and low weight lines of F3backcross normal feather, naked neck and frizzle chicken in the humid tropics. Result revealed that IINL and I lFL individuals weighed1128.lg, 1108.3g which is significantly (p<O.OS) more than low weight lines  which weighed 57).ôg, 566.7g respectvely. Average feed intake (ADFI) was also significantly higher for the heavy lines with I IN L which weighed highest consuming more Feed than other hues. The linear body measurements were generally higher for the heavy weight lines except LNaL which had significantly longer body length than oilier lines. The growth co-efficient was high and positive for all genotypes although the l-IFL showed more uniform growth performance within the genetic groups. In general, mortality rates were high in the brooding phase than in the goring phase for all the genotypes. The T-IFL individual; had the highest mortality rates among the genotypes.
