ABSTRACT

In Nigeria since the early eighties, unemployment has assumed an alarming dimension and a crisis proportion with millions of able bodied persons who are willing to accept jobs at a prevailing wage are unable to find a placement. Unemployment is regarded as one of the challenging problems facing policy makers in Nigeria. This research work examines the unemployment nexus in Umuahia and Aba of Abia State, the study adopted Mann Whitney U test with data covering the period 2006-2014. The data collected for Umuahia and Aha was analysed using the model stated above. The result reveals that unemployment in the two major cities has no significant relationship. In addition correlation analysis was used to test hypothesis for significance of the strength of unemployment and from the analysis, we found out that there is no significant relationship in Umuahia and Aba of Abia State. Though with the limited time and other constraints, remarkable success was achieved, thus this study made some recommendations so as to reduce unemployment to its barest minimum based on the findings of this work.
