ABSTRACT The main objective of this study was to investigate Cognitive and Affective Factors influencing Achievement in Geometry among Senior Secondary School Students in Abia State. The study adopted a correlational design to determine the relationship that exists between each of general reasoning ability and attitude and geometry mean achievement score. Five research questions and five hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The target population ofthe study was 15,829 SS2 Mathematics students in the three education zones of Abia State. Five hundred students who were randomly selected from the three education zones in Abia State were used as the sample ofthe study. Three instruments were used for the study. Two ofthem (Geometry Achievement Test and Geometry Attitude Test Questionnaire) were developed by the researcher while one (General Reasoning Ability Test, AH4) was adopted. The internal consistencies ofthe instruments were 0.78, 0.62 and 0.70 respectively. The data for the study were analyzed using the mean for the research questions while Pearson product moment correlation and t-test were used to test the hypotheses. The result ofthe analyzed data showed a positive correlation between general reasoning and achievement in geometry which was statistically significant. An examination of the' group means indicated that males performed significantly higher in geometry achievement and general reasoning ability than did females. There was also a strong positive correlation between students’ attitude and achievement in Geometry which was statistically significant. It was therefore recommended that students should be exposed to activities that would help them to be logical in their reasoning since it is a predictor of achievement. Teachers should encourage students to put on a positive attitude towards the study of Geometry to enhance their achievement in Geometry since the attitude of pupils can be influenced by the attitude ofthe teacher and his/her method ofteaching
