Characteristics Of Disabled Persons In Abia State

ABSTRACT

This work studies the characteristics of disabled persons as observed in Abia State. The ultimate objective of the work is to provide reliable statistical information that could be used by health agencies, government and international organizations in planning programmes, policies and carrying out projects aimed at reducing disability. Simple statistical measures like percentages, rates and cross tabulation were used to discuss the characteristics of the population and disabled persons, levels and differentials of disability respectively. Life tables was employed in investigating the dependence of disability on age and sex. However, the results showed that disability increases with age, and in general, reduces economic and social activities, slows down the pace of development, and affects the health status of Abia State population.
