Capital Budgeting And Its Relevance For Decision Making In Public Sector Organizations: A Study Of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council- Akwa Ibom State.

ABSTRACT

This study investigated capital budgeting and its relevance for decision making in public sector organization with references to Ikot Ekpene local Government "Akwa Iboin State ". The objectives of the study are to examine the reasons for 'vrong planning and effective control of its capital projects, to find out extent to i'hich capital budgeting helps public sector to achieve their objectives and to examine the aim of capital budgeting in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council. To achieve the objective of the study, descriptive research design was adopted. A total of 133 questionnaires were administered to the key staff and functional heads of council. The research adopted both primary and secondary data in getting the required information. Data in Ikot Ekpene Local Government was used. In testing the hypotheses Pearson product moment correlation analysis was used. The study revealed that there is a significant relationship between capital budgeting and decision making in public sector. The researcher recommended the staff of Ikot Expene Local Government should be trained on capital budgeting since the significant proportion of the council's expenditure is on long term project. The researcher also recommended that the council should set up monitoring team for regular, purposeful and effective monitoring of projects being executed.
