ABSTRACT

 This research work was focused on investigation on the role of budgeting and budgetary control as a management tool for corporate performance; a case study of Enugu State Housing Development Corporation. The organization is faced with the problem of lack of budgeting while planning and controlling their activities. The objective of the study was to determine whether budgeting improves corporate performance and to ascertain f budgeting improves management efficiency and output. Data were collected from primary sources involving 60 respondents from Enugu State Housing Development Corporation. Data obtained were analyzed using simple descriptive statistics while chi -square statistical instrument was applied in the test of the study hypotheses designed to determine how corporate performance can be improved and on whether budgeting contributes to improved management efficiency and output. From the study it was found that budget plays an important role in an organization as it improves the overall performance of managers. The researcher recommended that the budgetary process be improved, budget committee should be educated and that budget approval should be made public to avoid corruption. The above recommendation is to ensure that the budgetary process won '1 be flawed so that the organization will attain its objectives and targets.
