ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of vitamin A deficiency anemia among pregnant women attending antenatal care in rural and semi-urban health centres in Ikwuano local government area, Abia state. 36 blood samples were collected from 36 pregnant women attending antenatal care, 20 from the semi-urban centre and 16 from the rural health centre ofIkwuano L.G.A ofAbia state. The serum for the samples collected mean ± SEM. The variations between and among the different age groups were determined using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The result showed insignificant (p>0.05) differences for all comparison between and within groups. The mean serum vitamin A comparison of semi-urban(15-23years) 27.78 ± 1.31, (24-31years) 27.01 ± 0.32 and (32-40years) 28.70 ± 2.40, rural (15-23years) 28.00 ± 0.90, (24-31years) 27.38 ± 0.47 and (32-40years) 27.40 ±0.81 X Iwere analyzed statistically using SPSS version 22.
