Assessment Of Potable Water Quality Available To Residents Of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Post Graduate Hostel, Mouau, Abia State.:- Chukwukezie Aghori Nnenna V

ABSTRACT V Borehole water sample collected at Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Post Graduate Hotel, MOUAU, Abia State was assessed in this study to measure and determine the presence of some Physio-chemical and Bacteriological/microbial parameters of water quality. Several methods were employed in the analysis of these parameters and values obtained were compared to the potable water standard WHO 2004 Limit. The parameters analysed include PH, conductivity, turbidity, chloride, temperature, sulphate, phosphate, nitrate, alkalinity, colour, lead, manganese, iron, total dissolved solid, calcium, total hardness, faecal coliform bacteria, total coliform bacteria and total heterotrophic bacteria. The results indicated that all Physio-chemical and Bacteriological/Microbial parameter value obtained were in compliance with WHO 2004 Limit for portable drinking water except the value obtained in PH in-situ and laboratory analysis, which was 5.0 and 4.0 respectively. This value falls below the stated 6.5-8.5 PH Limit for potable water. Thus, this finding recommends treatment ofthe water source to raise the PH to the acceptable limit.
