ABSTRACT
The fruiting bodies of the Nigerian Galiode,7na aplanaiuin were collected from decaying tree stumps, barks, and decomposing roots. They were subjected to extractions using Benzene, Ethyl acetate, Methanol, Chloroform and Hot water. The phytochemical analysis of these extracts indicated that all the bioactive components were present in methanol, chloroform, and Benzerme extracts. When antibacterial activities were carried out, the crude and aqueous extracts of the sample exhibited various degree of inhibition against some tested organisms. ilie widest inhibitory zones (36.0 mm) were obtajned with the crude benzene extract of G. applanaluinagainst k. meunioniac. The lowest zone of inhibition (7.0 mm) was demonstrated with the aqueous extract against Salinoiiel/a tvp/;i..Minimuni inhibitory concentration were carried out also, P. aerugillosa exhibited its lowest concentration in aqueous extract at 200mg/mI, while K. pnelinonia exhibited its lowest concentration on Benzene at 100mg/nil, ethyl acetate and aqueous exit act at 00mg/mi respectively. The lowest concentration on methanol extract at 100mg/mi was exhibited by Salnoiula trphi. The results obtained from this work can be a precursor to the production of herbal drugs for many infections in developing countries.
