Antimicrobial Activities Of Some Detergents Used In Umuahia:- Arisah, Obinna I.

ABSTRACT

The antibacterial activities ofsome detergents sold in Umuahia Main Market, were tested against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Proteus sp by agar well diffusion method. These organisms are usually present in the environment. Ariel had the highest zone of inhibition on Staphylococcus aureus 24mm, 17mm and 14mm on 100ml, 200ml and 500ml respectively. Bonux followed with 20mm on E. coli with 20mm, 16mm and 11mm on 100ml, 200ml 500ml While Jumbo had the least zone of inhibition on Proteus sp 14mm, 10mm and 6mm on  100ml, 200ml and 500ml v on Proteus sp 14mm, 10mm and 6mm on From this study, it has been shown that these detergents possess antibacterial properties which can help in inhibiting bacteria in the environment.
