Antidiabetic Activity Of Crude Methanolic Extract Of Stem Bark Of Parkia Biglobosa In Type 2 Animal Model Diabetes Mellitus:- Eze, Kingsley C

ABSTRACT

Crude methanolic extract of Parkia Biglohosa leaves at 250mg/kg was evaluated for the antidiabetic activity using streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. The anti-diabetic drug metformin was used as a standard drug. The plant extract was able to restore the serum Iron levels to normal blood Hb , while administration of the standard drug metformin caused a slight shift (p<0.05) from the normal control. The plant extract P. Biglobosa, and the standard drug (300mg/kg) restored the blood glucose level to normal. The plant extract was very effective in keeping the total Hb level in the normal range. The plant extract reduced the level ofpassing ofurine bringing it to normal range. The plant extract (250 and mg/kg) showed an effective hypogylcaemic property as judged from the result of the analysis on the biomarkers -Haemoglobin(Hb), Glycated Haemoglobin (HbAlc), Liver glycogen, Hexokinase activity, Oral glucose tolerance test and fasting blood sugar
