ABSTRACT
This project work analyses the antibacterial activates of analyses producing Bacillus species isolated from soil samples which were randomly collected from six different locations ranging from soils receiving kitchen wastes from different canteens to soils form agricultural fields respectively, inside Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. The study was aimed at evaluating the ability f possible isolated to inhibit the growth of certain test organisms. Serial of possible Bacillus species. A. total of 30 strains were isolated on the basis of colony morphology, out of the 30, only (9) nine isolates showed zones of inhibition when further screened for amylase production on starch agar. These isolates were further characterized biochemically. Crude extracts of staphylococcus aereus, serrattia specie and Escherichia coil, demonstrated antibacterial activity against the soil sample isolates in which inhibition zones of Escherichia coli, and 11. 84mm-3 3.34mm in serrattia specie respectively. The results obtained showed that the strains of Bacillus species have the potential for producing antimicrobial substance- bacitracin which inhibits both Gram positives and Gram negative pathogenic bacteria. Bacillus species therefore show higher levels of resistance in Gram positive organisms and more effectiveness against Escherichia coil.
