ABSTRACT
The eflect of Anti-inflammtory potential of methanol extracts of Citrulluslanatus seeds on dihydrotestosterone estradiol induced benign prostatic hyperplasia on male Albino rats. This study ofmethanol extract ofCitrulluslanatus seeds is used to evaluate, the biological parameter such as, body weight, relative organ weight, prostate specific antigen, Creactive protein and Creatine kinase of the rats. Phytochemical and acute toxicity study was conducted on the seeds of Citrulluslanatus using standard methods. Thirty six rats were divided into five experimental groups of 6 rats each. Group 1- Normal control, Group 2 Disease control, Group 3 — standard drug control (Finasteride - group), Group 4 400mg/kg citrulluslanatus seeds, Group 5 - 200mg/kg citrulluslanatus seeds. The NC was not induced with BPH but was given olive, oil administered orally (everyday) and subcutaneous injection of olive oil (every other day) for 28 days. The disease control group was induced BPH hormones every other day for 28 days and oral administration of olive oil every day for 28 days. The standard drug control was induced BHP hormone every other day for 28 days and was 5mg/70kg administered orally every day. The 400mg/kg and 200mg/kg of methanol extract of citrulluslanatus seeds was given to BPH induced rats orally every day respectively. Result of phytochemical studies showed high levels of flavonoids (2.17 0.014mg/100g), followed b\, Saponins (2.11 0.014mg/100g) and reducing sugar (1.615 0.212mg/100g), Cyanogenic glycoside (0.04 0.007mg/100g) has the lowest concentration. The result also showed that PSA and CRP level decreased significantly (p<0.05) in groups treated with different doses of Citrulluslanatus extract. Body weight significantly (p<0.05) increase in treated BPH rats compared to the non-treated diseased group. No significant (P>0.05) difference was observed in Creatine Kinase. This study reveals important anti-inflammatory constituent which shows that Citrulluslanatusmoy have beneficial effect in preventing or suppressing the development of BPH and useful in treatment and management of BPH.
