ABSTRACT

This project aims at revealing the distinguishing anatomical and histochemical features among some sugar cane. (Saccharurn species) varieties of the variation and confusion encountered in the field. Those features include vascular bundle arrangement in the root stern and leaf types of sclerenchyma, mesophyll. he presence and nature of crystals, starch grains seem L he of botanical importance. Another feature that can be use to distinguish the sugar cane cultivars are some morphological differences of the vegetative parts. The type of colour of sugar cane sizes, and sugar content of various variables, but much emphasis were based on the anatomical and Histochemical characteristics of the arrangement of vascular bundle, pericyclic endodermis, type of mesophyll and quantity of starch grains in the vegetative parts, the occurrence of oxalate crystals which may contribute to the rigidity ii mesophyll region of leaf, the shape of crystals, sizes, location and occurrence of crystals in some vegetative parts of the various varieties which can perform storage function. And these characters contribute a lot of biological significance in assessing the differences which occurred in various varieties of sugar cane.
