ABSTRACT

This study is aimed at accomplishing corporate growth through merger and acquisition using Access Bank Pic as a case study. The main objective of merger and acquisition is to make companies have better access to capital and expansion of operation. It must be emphasized that, the fate of employees lie in the hand of the employers. There is a great need that the mergers and acquisition be undertaken with due consideration of how best to manage and reduce loss of employment. On July 6, 2004, the CBN through its governor Charles Soludo made a regulation increasing the minimum paid up capital for Nigerian Bank from 2 billion naira to 25 billion naira. This regulation now nicknamed Soludo solution (ss) has sent panic jitter through the Nigeria economic policy. For the legal mind, Soludo solution was made pursuant to section 9 of Bank And Other Financial Decree (BOFID) which gives legal authority to the president to determine from time to time share capital of banks consolidating the Nigeria banking industry to meet the development challenges of the 21st century. However various multi-national companies engaged in multi-billion naira business in Nigeria have availed themselves of the benefits of mergers and acquisitions.
