A Time Series Analysis Of Infant Mortality A Case Study Of Federal Medical Centre Umuahia.

ABTRACT

Mortality Statistics are bye- products of the legal process of death registration. When one talks about infant mortality one is talking about death of infant that are between the ages of zero and one (0-1) .the main objective of thgse work is to design a mathematical model thatcold be used to forecast dependable future levels of infant deaths in the state and also to evaluate the infant death data to see if it is normally distributed and have constant variance. The components of time series present in the data was also estimated and isolated. The survey covers all the registered infant death at the federal medical center Umuahia Abia -state between January 1996 to June 2001. the main method of analysis used in these work is the time series analysis. The multiplicative model was used in these works. The result revealed that the trend was on the average of seven infant deaths per month and December had the highest seasonal influences on infant while September had the lowest. It was also found out that the infant death data was normally distributed and it had a constant variance.
