ABSTRACT
This study examined the use of
information and communication technology by library professionals in university
of uyo library. The study was guided by Six purposes of the study and questions
covering to find out the ICT facilities used by library professionals in
University of Uyo Library, to examine the attitude of the library professionals
towards ICT usage, to explore the level of use of ICTs by library professionals
in University of Uyo Library, to discover the benefits ofICT usage to the
library professionals, to identify the constraints militating against the
effective use of ICTs by the library professionals, to unravel the constraints
militating against the effective use ofICTs by the library professionals. The
research design was descriptive survey research design with a population of33
comprising ofall library professionals of university of Uyo library. The
population ofthe study will be totally enumerated. This is because ofthe
population isfinite and accessible, therefore no sample was drawn. The instruments
used for the collection of data were observation checklist and structured
questionnaire. The questionnaire titled Use ofInformation Communication
Technology by Library Professionals (UICTLP). The questionnaire was designed in
line with four point likert rating scale. Thirty three (33) copies ofthe
questionnaire were administered ofwhich thirty three (33) was correctlyfilled
and returned showing 100% response rate. Data was analyzed usingfrequency, mean
and standard deviation. The findings ofthis study have shown that various
efforts are being made by University of Uyo Library for effective utilization
ofICTfacilities. The main purpose of this study is to ascertain the Use of
Information and Communication Technologies by Library Professionals in University
of Uyo Library. Findings of the study revealed that some of the ICT Facilities
Used By Professionals In University Of Uyo Library which include Electronic
Books, Electronic Journals, Electronic Abstract, Electronic Reference
Materials, The Internet, Electronic Theses/Dissertations, Electronic Grey
document, Compact Disk Read Only Memory (CD-ROM), TEEAL, AGORA, OARE, EBCOHOST,
and HINARI. Findings of the study revealed that some of the reasons for using
ICT Resources by Library Professionals in University of Uyo Library which
include helping to present articles in the seminar, Speedy retrieval of
information, Effective Document sharing. They make work easier providing
multiple usage of information materials and accessibility ofwider volume
ofinformation.
