ABSTRACT
Law libraries are essential tools for the
training of potential lawyers and as such must be properly and adequately
maintained. Law libraries are special libraries established to serve the
information needs of law students, lawyers, judges, law clerks, historians,
members of house of assembly, house of representatives, senates and other
scholars of legal profession in order to study or research the law. According to
Malami (2012), a law library is the library set up to provide legal information
resources to assist judicial officers, other members of the courts and their
clients in case of litigations, law scholars and students in an academic
institutions and other law officers in ministries, police force other law
related institutions and agencies. A law library is the accumulation of legal
information resources, historically consisting of treaties, statutory codes and
case reporters as presented by Prabhu and Kumar (2018). Modem law libraries go
beyond this, their collection consists of prints and as well as
digitalresources. Law collections are known to be dynamic in nature as they are
frequently published and mainly in successive forms. Quality collections is the
life blood of any academic institution and law libraries are invariably not
left out as quality of their resources determine to a large extent the quality
ofservices they can offer and it also governs the extent to which such services
can he provided. Law collections are categorised into three, viz:
