Abstract
Information is
found to be crucial in every level of human life and existence. With the
proliferation of information in different medium and the rapid growth in
information technology, information comes unfiltered and through different
sources and size, as a result users encounter difficulty on how to locate,
evaluate and use the information available to them. It therefore becomes
necessary that librarians who are trained and educated in information
management and knowledge creation should device the best method for effective
use of the information available for users. Information literacy skill is
considered to be important in this information age as is found to be the
mechanism for effective information search and retrieval. This is an opinion
paper "hich presented librarians as information professionals who should
champion and take ~he lead in the best method to use creating accessibility and
use of information in rneet~ng the needs of individuals in the society. The
paper also discussed the 'irements, constraints and prospects for the promotion
of information literacy by ians. In conclusion, it was discovered that for them
to take the lead, they must be "ormau> ». ·% thr ugh the promotion
