The Impact Of Performance Appraisal On Workers' Productivity (A Study Of Abia State Judiciary, Umuahia)
ABSTRACT
Performance appraisal
has been considered as the most significant, an indispensable tool for an
organization and for the information it provides. It is highly useful in making
decision regarding various personnel aspects such as promotion and merit
increases. Performance measures also link information gathering and decisions
making processes which provide a basis for judging the effectiveness of
personnel sub-divisions such as recruiting, selecting, training and
compensation. The main objective of this research is to examine Performance
Appraisals in Abia State Judicary, Umuahia Four hypotheses were postulated and
tested. A total of 60 employees constituted the sample size of the research.
The data used for the study is primary data collected through the help of
questionnaire and personal interview. The data was evaluated with the help of
statistical tools i.e Taro Yarnane formula and Chi-square test. The findings
include that management should not overlook the impact of performance appraisal
as this seriously affects employee output. The research clearly revealed that
adequate compensation resulting from improved performance appraisal motivates
and induces job satisfaction in employee and hence, greater productivity. And
also, it facilitates the control of workers in an Organization.
