Abstract

This focused the impact, challenges and opportunities of digital technologies in academic libraries in Eastern and Southern Nigeria. infrastructure; Lack of professional skills; Lack of co-operation of staff members; Copyright issues; Resistance to Change and Inadequate Internet connectivity were challenges facing academic libraries. Also, Expanded access through information sharing: Libraries are becoming technology hubs; Libraries are being shaped by budget cuts; Libraries have a stronger role in academic communities: Printed books still dominate reading. despite the growth of e-books; Subject-matter expertise and Becoming familiar with a wide range of digital content, were the opportunities identified The article concludes with reflections on future developments and the

impact of digital technological utilities. It's clear that the library has been a valuable institution for academic purposes as long as pen hos been put to paper. However, the library and its role in academic research are no doubt going through o clear transformation in the 21st century.
