ABSTRACT

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) reports that the backward development in Nigeria is attributed to weakness in the internal control system of companies and banks. This points out the picture of how fraud has penetrated in the
financial strength of Nigerian organizations. In a nut shell, the damage which this menace called fraud has done to organizations is innumerable and needs urgent attention. Therefbrc, the attempt to put an end to this economic
degradation gavc rise to the topic of this research study- the evaluation qf the c/Ject (!I internal control SySk'fll organizational peijonnance with Champion Breweries PLC and Tidcmark Nig. Ltd as case study. However, this study is aimed at verifying the conception that adequate system of internal control is the best control measure to reduce fraud and improve organizational performance. Data captured for this study were analysed through descriptive and inftrcntial statisUcal method. The descriptive analysis involves the use of percentage, tabulations and frequencies while inferential has to do with USC chi-squarc statistics, it is found that there is a significant relationship between adequate system of internal control and detection of fraud as well as improved ol'galltzatn)na I pcih i ui Ice.
