ABSTRACT

The performance of broilers fed diets containing 5%, 10% and 1 5% full fat palm kernel meal was compared to determine which of these 1e'e1s of full- fat palm kernel meal inclusion in broiler diets would produce the best resiIt. Four isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets containing 0, 5, 10 and 1 5% levels of full fat palm kernel meal at broiler starter and finisher phases were fed to 72 broiler chicks of Anak 2000 breed. The experiment lasted for eight weeks Feed intake, daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio of birds fed diet containing 5% full fat palm kernel meal (FFPKM) were significantly greater (P<0.05) that those of birds fed 10% and 15% FFPKM respectively but similar to that of birds fed the control ration (0% FFPKM). In tenns of economic evaluation (cost of feed, cost per weight gain, revenue and marginal profit) the diet (2) with 5.% FFPKM performed better than diets (3 and 4) with 10 and 15%, F'FPKM respectively. However the control ditwas•. the most profitable of all the diets. For average final weight, haemoglobin, seniin fat and packed cell volume, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) among birds fed diets with 5, 10 and 1 5% FFPKM. it is recommended here that full — fat palm kernel meal can be used to consulate broiler rations at 5% level of inclusion and good results expected.
