ABSTRACT

This research was designed to evaluate broiler chickens fed rice milling waste based diets supplemented with enzyme (Ronozyme® multigrain). The research was carried out in three studie. In the first study, proximate analysis which include the gross energy, anti nutritional factors and mineral content of rice milling waste(RMW) were determined. In study’s two, eleven experimental diets each were formulated to contained RMW without enzyme as replacement for maize at 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100% while! experiment three had RMW supplemented Ronozyme® Multigrain enzyme as replacement for maize at 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% and 100%. Three hundred (330) 7-days old chicks were allocated (each of the experiment) to the 11 dietary treatments each having 3 replicate pens with 10 birds per pen. Feed and water were provided ad libitum for 6 weeks. Data were collected on the performance, carcass yield, organ proportions, haematological indices, serum profile and feed cost benefit which were analyzed using ANOVA with a P<0.05 level of significance. Results from experiment one showed that the proximate, anti nutritional and mineral composition of rice milling waste were suitable as feed ingredients and as well would not hinder the utilization and absorption of RMW. The second experiment showed that growth performance of broiler chickens fed 1'0% i- 40% RMW without enzyme were significantly (P<0.05) higher for final weight, weight gained, average daily weight gained, feed intake, feed conversion ratio, carcass weight, dressed weight and economic value. The haematological indices and serum profile showed that the values were within the normal physiological range except for packed cell volurhe (PCV) of broiler chickens fed 100% RMW (47.83%) which had a value above the normal range, a condition known as polycythemia, a disease state in which PCV is elevated willed might be due to an increase in the number of RBC or to a decrease in the volume of plasma. The growth performance, carcass and economics of production measured in experiment 3 showed significantly (P<0.05) higher values for broiler chickens fed 10 % - 60% RMW supplemented with Ronozyme® Multigrain enzyme, while the results of the profile showed that there were no detrimental effect of RMW diets. The inclusion of RMW in diet of broiler chickens as a replacement for maize improved nutrient utilization and greater economic value. It can therefore be recommended that RMW can be used to replace maize between 10% -40% without enzyme and 10% - 60% supplemented with Ronozyme® Multigrain enzyme in the diets of broiler chickens under the conditions ofthe studies.
