Abstract The
21st century has brought significant changes to the field oflibrarianship,
including the rise ofdigital technologies and the increasing importance
ofonline resources. As a result, librarians must adapt to these changes
anddevelop newskills andcompetencies in orderto effectivelyserve theirpatrons.
One way in which librarians have responded to these changes is through the
concept ofblended librarianship, which combines traditional library skills with
expertise in technology and digitalresources. As an exploratory research, this
chapter tends to look at the concept ofblended librarianship, history ofblended
librarianship in Nigeria, potential benefits ofblendedlibrarianship in
information services, the Skills andcompetencies ofthe blended librarian, roles
oftechnology in blendedlibrarianship, challengesfacing blendedlibrarianship
andstrategies foreffective blendedlibrarianship.
