ABSTRACT

This study aimed at applying quality control technique to check and 'control the characteristics of coke, a product of coca-cola Bottling Company. The data for the • project wer secondary X-chart and R-charts were plotted for each of the characteristics. It was observed that when process is under statistical control, about 99.7% of all the ranges are expected to lie between 0.0000 and 0.1467 and about 95% of all the ranges are expected to lie between 0.021 and 0.118. From the R-chart in figure 3.1, it could be seen that all the points representing 100% are within the action limits and there is no trend in the plot. From the X-chart in figure 3.3, it could be seen that 4 points representing about 12.9% of all the observations lies outside the action limit and there is a systematic pattern. From-this above observations, it could be said that the process may be out of statistical quality control. Therefore, for future control, a revised X-chart control limits can be computed by dropping off the points above warning limits. The data was firstly evaluated to verify the basic assumptions of statistical quality control. The normality assumption was tested using the chi-square goodness of fit test, a the next assumption that was used to verify the basis of whicli the quality control is applied was that the data was randomly collected. And this was done using the runs test. Quality control is a production function in which performance is measured and corrective actions are taken to ensure the accomplishment of organizational goals as a result of pointing out errors and weaknesses and rectifying the situation in order to prevent reoccurrence. One of the major importance of statistical quality control is the reduction of wasted time and material to an absolute minimum level, since faulty production is immediately dictated and the causes removed. The data at 5% of significance is normal, the data at 5% level of significance is random and the data at 5% level of significance has a constant variable, these were the hypothesis that were carried out in the study. From the result of the investigation on the process quality characteristics of Nigerian Bottling Company Plc, it could be proved beyond every reasonable doubt that statistical quality control is expedient in coca-cola soft drink production.
