ABSTRACT

The Spatial and Temporal Evaluation of Idaw River for Irrigation Purposes were carried out. Sample were collected from six different positions (three upstream samples and three downstream samples) and were used for analysis. The physicochemical parameter analyzed includes Temperature, Turbidity, Total Dissolved Solids, Electrical Conductivity, Alkalinity, Acidity, Salinity, pH, Chloride, Total Hardness, Sulphate, Phosphate, Sodium, Potassium and Sodium Absorption ratio. Results obtained showed that the mean values of T.D.S 44.6 a ± 2.30 before deposited and 76•7b ± 3.75 after deposited. The average pH values of the water (6.42 to 6.46) were slightly below the FAQ and WHO standard of 6.5 to 8.5. Most of the chemical parameters analyzed were within the FAQ and WI-JO standard limits. Hence, the results fall within the range of FAO standard for irrigation.

Review of the Spatiotemporal Assessment of Idaw River Water Quality for Irrigation Purposes.

This study presents a well-structured spatial and temporal evaluation of the Idaw River to determine its suitability for irrigation purposes. The research demonstrates scientific rigor through the collection of samples from six strategic locations (three upstream and three downstream), enabling a clear comparative assessment of water quality before and after deposition activities. The physicochemical parameters analyzed: temperature, turbidity, TDS, electrical conductivity, alkalinity, acidity, salinity, pH, chloride, hardness, sulphate, phosphate, sodium, potassium, and sodium absorption ratio, are relevant and appropriate for determining irrigation suitability, aligning with both FAO and WHO standards. The findings are clearly presented. Notably, the mean Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) values increased from 44.6 ± 2.30 upstream to 76.7 ± 3.75 downstream, indicating potential influence of deposition or anthropogenic activities. However, these values remain within acceptable irrigation thresholds. The recorded pH values (6.42–6.46), though slightly below the recommended 6.5–8.5 WHO/FAO range, do not present significant limitations for agricultural use. Importantly, the majority of analyzed chemical parameters fall within FAO and WHO permissible limits, strongly supporting the study’s conclusion that Idaw River water is generally suitable for irrigation. Overall, this work is scientifically sound, clearly written, and contributes valuable data to environmental monitoring and agricultural water resource management in the region. The methodology is appropriate, and the interpretation of results is logical and consistent with international standards. I recommend this study as a credible and useful reference for researchers, environmental agencies, and agricultural stakeholders.
