ABSTRACT

 The study was carried out to know the security practices of some tourism destinations in Owem metropolis in the face of recent challenges in Nigeria. The objective of the research were to identify the types of security practices prevalent in the various tourism destinations, determine the ffect of security measures to competition with other tourism destination, determine the benefits of security measures on the tourism destination, and to determine the problems associate with installing security measures in the various tourism destinations. Methodology of the resexrch was survey design. The population for the study consist of 6000 sample for the study conist of 375 respondents made up of stag guest and management from the selected tourism destnations in Owerri metropolis. Data for this research was generated using quantitative technique simple frequency percentages and mean were used to analyze the data generated for the esearch. The finding of the study revealed that customers were now apprehensive of their safety due to the prevalent circumstances. Therefore, putting security measures in place will incr.ase the volume of patronage of the tourism destinations, customers satisfaction will be enhr need, increase in tourism income, attraction of investors to the country and creation of more empoyment opportunities. For tourism destinations to be sustained, adequate security have to be maiitained since security is vital to providing quality in tourism industry, it was recommended that both government, individuals and stakeholders in the tourism industry should rise to the need of ensuring maximum security of the tourism destinations.
