ABSTRACT
The main objective of the study
"examining the role of statutory auditors in preventing and detecting
frauds in government establishments in Nigeria" and therefore hypothesized
that there is no significant effect of statutory auditors and examining of financial
statement of government establishments in Nigeria, and that the statutory
auditors 'role has no significant effect on fraud prevention and detection in
government establishments in Nigeria. The study engaged the survey research
design method through administration of questionnaires to a sample size of 32.
To estimate the variables, it adopted the ordinary least squares based simple
regression analysis. The study found out that the probability of the F-statistics
for the effect of statutory auditors' role on examining the financial statement
of government establishments in Nigeria and the statutory auditors' role on
fraud prevention and detection in government establishments in Nigeria were significant
at 4.3% and 4.5% and therefore recommends that; the statutory auditors ' should
examine the financial statement properly and also bear in mind to detect any
misstatement, fraud, etc., that will affect the true and fair view of the
financial statement as well as ensuring the effectiveness of the internal
control systems.
