Resource Use And P1oductivity In Ginger Production In Ikwuano Local Government Area Of Abia State
ABSTRACT
In a broad term, this study aims at assessing the resources use and productivity of Ginger farmers in Ikwano Loacal Government Area of Abia State, Data for the study were collected through the use of a well structured questionnaires and personal interview of thirty (30) Ginger farmers. The result of the analysis indicate that, the identified key resources (farm size, labour, other inputs and depreciated fixed assets) were inefficiently utilized by the farmers in the study area. this shows that non of the resources were optimally utilized. farm size was under utilize while other resources (labour, other inputs depreciated fixed assets) were over utilized. this shows that to achieve efficiency in resource use and increase productivity. Ginger farmers are to increase the farm size and should be trained on how to reduce other resources (Labour, other inputs and depreciated fixed assets) since they were excessively applied. Extension service should be improved by educating farmers on how to optimize resources to ensure increased productivity
