ABSFRACT

An investigation was carried out on the replacement value of guinea com waste for maize in broiler diets. A total of 24 day-old Anak broiler chicks was used for the experiment Guinea com waste was analyzed for formulating started and finisher broiler diets at 0.0% 5%,15%,25% dietrary levels. Each dietary levels was replicated thrice and fed to chicks in a completely randomized design (CRD). The parameters evaluated were the initial body weight, final body weight, average feed intake, feed conversion ratio and economic parameters. In growth performances, there were significant differences (P<0.05) for average daily intake (73.49 1 , 76.55, 69.59, 58.20 Average daily weight gain (36.79°, 37.98°, 34.12, 27.57). Final weight (2100.00, 2166.70°, 1950.00° 1583.30° ). Diets 2 and 3 compared more favourably with Diet I in these parameters. Diets 4 was significantly lower in these parameters, this suggests that upto 15% replacement level of maize is acceptable. The economic parameters also showed significant difference. The gross margin at the started level was best in the control diet, whereas the finisher level Diet 2 was higher than Diet 1 where Diets 3 was however closer to Diet 1. Diet 4 performed least in all the parameters eonsiderecf at the finisher level. It can therefore be concluded that guinea corn waste should not be included at levels above 15%.
