ABSTRACT

Nutritional composition of pemisetum purpurem (achara) and its effect  on body weight changes. the proximate analysis of pemisetum purpurem gave an ash content 8.19 ± 0.042, moisture collect 63.33 0.24, fit 1.88 I 0.06, crude fibre 29.5 ± 0.238, crude Protein 10.9 ± 0.202 and carbohydrate 49.35. The heeding of pewiisetzimputpurem caused a weight loss of— 22.87 ± 8.49 in the lest group lii (75% achara) and 22.65 4.12 in test group H (50% achara) insignificantly (P.>0US) as compared to the conhli)l (group 1), which had a weight gain o130 ± 10.63. The relative weight of experimental rat liver increased in the test group 111 with 4.9 x 10-2 ± 4.5 x 10 significantly ( P<0.05) and decreased insignificantly (P>0.05 ) to 0.0386 ± 4.6 x 10-3 in test group 11 as compared to the control I . 12 x 10-1 ± 1.7 x Serum almanac amino transferase activity shoved a (lecicase significantly (P<0.05) in test group 11 (50% achara) with 10.7 ± 5.9 in test group ill (75% achara) significantly (P>< 0.05) with 23.4 ±37.3. Serum aspartate amino activity in test group 11 showed a decrease significantly (P< 0.05) and an increase significantly (P< 0.05) in test group 111 as compared to the control (group 1). Alkaline phiosphiata.se activity showed a decrease in test groups II and test group ill significantly (P< 0.05) as compared to the control (group 1 level was within the normal range insignificantly (P>0. 05). This study suggests that when pennisetum purpurein (achara) is used as supplements for diet it cause body weight loss and has effect on body weight changes.
