ABSTRACT

The agricultural      sector      bf    Nigeria   has     encountered challenges   in  recent   times   owing.  to  neglect.  These   projects  therefore examines     the     challenges     encountered      m    administering      cost accounting   and   control   in  the   sector,    examines   the  purpose   of cost accounting and   control    in  ·the   agricultural    sector    and   recommend problem solution. on  the   use   of  cost   accounting   and   control    in  the agricultural   ·sector.  Responsively.   Hypothesis   was  formulated   and tested    to  know   if there.   is·  any   significant'  relationship    between  the challenges    encountered     by   federal    ministry    of   agriculture,   Abia State   and   control   expected.  In  addition,  data   collected  was  analyzed. using    Chi-square.    The   researcher    strongly   recommend    that    there should    be  constant   review   of  the   cost   and   management    system   of

agricultural    sector    in   general    and   federal    ministry   of  agriculture, Abia State   trends    .in  the   agricultural    sector   to·  make   it  adapting   to current    developmental   trends    in  the  agricultural   sector.   In addition, adequate     and     well-trained     expert     cost     accountant      should      be. engaged   in  view··.of   the   difficulties  involved in  cost·  ascertainment and   ensure     that    operating    cost   should     be  based    current     cost   rather than   historical   cost   so  as  to  provide  realistic  basis   for  wise decision

making.
