ABSTRACT
Moringa oleifera has been identified as a rich
ornamental plant naturally foriried with both organic and inorganic compounds
used for medicinal purposes, nutraceutical food supplements and chemical
entities for drug synthesis. This study was carried out to analyze the
phytochemical properties of Moringa oleifera using extraction process; ethanol,
n- hexane. l'tllyl acetate and water on the leave of M.oleifera. The extraction
process was carried out after the leaves were collected, washed, dried at room
temperature (27°C) and grounded into powder using iron blender. The grounded
leaf was weighted and soaked in four different !>Olve111: ethanol, ethyl
acetate, n- hexane and water for 24hours. After which, the solvent were
filtered in each case to recover the extract, the qualitative analysis was
carried out on the extract. Thi! qualitative analysis was carried out from the
extract which shows that M.oleifera contains sap@OllF, flavonoids, tannins,
phenol, steroids and glycoside. The quantitative analysis revealed that
flavonoid had the highest ( 10.9%) by mass of the total phytochemical,
follo" l.!.:I by Alkaloids (5.00%), Phenol (0.80%), Saponin (0.70%), and
Tannins (0.08%) respectively Clycosides ha0 the lowest percentage (0.01%) by
mass of phytochemical present in th·.! s:.idi.:d leaves of M.oleifera.
