Perspectives and Applications of Management Information Systems in Academic Libraries in Nigeria:- Anezi Leonard E
ABSTRACT
This paper explored Management Information
Systems in academic libraries in Nigeria. It presented the conceptual overview
of Management Information Systems and traced the historical development of MIS
from the first to the fifth era. The types and components of Management
Information Systems were analyzed, and the application of management
information systems in academic libraries in Nigeria were highlighted. The
paper examined the MIS integrated software and databases used in academic
libraries in Nigeria libraries. The benefits of MIS to libraries were x-rayed.
The paper concluded that MIS is a prerequisite for efficient service delivery
and optimal users' satisfaction in academic libraries. It therefore recommends
management of libraries in Nigeria to adequately equip and develop staff
competencies in the use of digital technologies so as to enable libraries
achieve their primary objectives of meeting users' information needs. Keywords:
