ABSTRACT

This study seeks to determine the effect ofpoor implementation ofcollection development policy in IMSU library, adopted descriptive survey research design. The total population will he 39, the instrument is questionnaire. Data was analyzed using simple descriptive like frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation. The following findings Were made that written collection development policy and unwritten collection development policy are the types of collection development policy available, basic information level, instructional support level, research level, comprehensive level and collection of record are the level of implementation of collection development- policy, that insufficient fund, lack of proper evaluation, of library resources, inconsistency ofreviewing the library policy andpoor management ofacademic library are the challengesfacing the implementation ofcollection development. Thefollowing recommendations were made that recruitment ofqualifiedprofessional library staffby the academic libraries parent organizations, that the library should make effective and efficient implementation ofacquisition policy in academic library, that adequatefindsshouldmake available for the purchase ofrelevant information materials, that adequate training and re-training of library staff by the academic libraries’ management and adequate policy should specify who is responsible for selection, method ofselection, treatment for gifts and donations, weeding, and how to dispose weeded materials.
