Performance Of Weaner Rabbits Fed Graded Levels Of Carrot Waste Meal As Partial Substitute For Palm Kernel Cake Meal
ABSTRACT
Twenty four
weaner rabbits of mixed breeds and sexes were used to evaluate the utilization
of carrot waste meal as partial substitute for palm kernel meal in the diet.
Six rabbits were allocated to diets which contained 0%, 33.3%, 60% and 100%
levels of carrot waste meal in the diet. There was no significant difference
(P>0.05) among the growth performance parameters measured
1021.25,1561.00,1580.00,1120.00 respectively for the- four treatments, but
numerically, treatment 3 which is 60% substitution gave the highest values
1580.00. There was no significant difference in the feed conversion ratio
(p>0.05). which had the following values, 8.07, 4.40, 4.30 and 6.78 for
treatments 1-4 respectively. Treatment 3 had the lowest value. The result for
the carcass evaluation revealed significant differences (P>0.05) among the
cut parts measured except the drumstick and the thigh which had 10.81, 12.48,
16.13, 14.81 and 29.82, 25.52, 22.88 and 25.41 respectively, no significant
differences (p>0.05) in organ weight except the spleen and liver
respectively. It appears that including 60% of the carrot waste meal in the
diets of weaned rabbits improved performance and yield of the animals.
