ABSTRACT
This experiment which lasted for
56 days was conducted to evaluate the influence of -4 organic acid on
performance of turkey poults. Four (4) experimental diets were formulated in
which 0.25% of formic, acetic and lactic acid were added to T2,T3 and T4,TI
serving as control diet. Seventy two (72) turkey poults were randomly allotted
to the four (4) treatment diet replicated three (3) times with each replicate
having six (6) poults given rise to eighteen (18) poults in completely
randomized design. Feed and water were offered ad libitum. There was no
significant difference (p>O.05) in all the growth parameters considered.
Also in economics of production, there was no significance difference
(P>0.05) in all the parameters considered. However diet two (2) (formic
acid) has the highest value in profit. The values of dry matter (69.50), ether
extract (19.00), nitrogen free extract (70.70) and ash (24.00) of the meat of
turkeys feed diet two (2) (formic acid) were significantly higher (P<0.05) than others. The protein content of turkey fed diet 4 (lactic acid) was significantly higher (43.63) (p><
0.05) than others and it can be recommended because protein is the indices for
measuring the quality of meat. I therefore recommend that lactic acid diet
fours(4)should be used to supplement turkey feed for high protein content and
formic acid, diet two(2)for better economics performance and profit.
