Optimizing Information Services Delivery Through Collaborative Library Services In A Digital Age:- Amogu, Kalu U.
Abstract
The Digital Age has been characterized with
information explosion and changes in the manner information are handled. For
libraries to remain effective in library and information services delivery for
user satisfaction, they must devise means of responding positively to the
challenges of the Digital Age. One of the methods devised by library
establishments to optimize information service delivery is collaboration with
other libraries and institutions that provide related information services. The
paper focuses on how to optimize information services delivery in libraries,
using collaborative efforts as catalyst. It highlights the need for optimizing
information services delivery in libraries, collaborative allies of libraries and
possible collaborative library services namely collaborative cataloguing,
collaborative resource sharing, collaborative reference service etc. The paper
identified some limits and challenges to effective collaboration. It recommends
among others that collaborating libraries should examine the collaborative
mission in the light of individual and institutional values before embarking
upon any collaborative venture.
