ABSTRACT

A study was conducted to ascertain the morphorneiric changes that occur following pregnancy in sows in Michael Okpara University livestock fann. Eight animals were used to conduct the study which were grouped into two. Group A consist of four sows, each one serving as a replicate while groups B consists of four sows each one serving as a replicate. Group A was mated while group B was not mated. Data were collected on weekly basis for fifteen (15) weeks. The data collected include Body weight (BT). Height of the animal (HT), abdominal diameter (AD) circumference of the vulva (CV), length of vulva, (LV, length of front teat (FT), length of middle teat (MT), and length of back teat (BT). The data collected were subjected to statistical analysis using t-test and the following means were obtained, 63.250kg to 73.500kg for body weight, 85.00cm to 92.750cm for height of the animal, 87.50cm to 104.125cm for abdominal diameter, .10.250cm to 11.750cm for circumference of the vulva,4.00cin to 4.00cm for the length of vulva, 1.70Qcm to 2.470cm for the length of front teat, 1.800cm to 2.75cm for the length of the middle teat and 1.700cm to 2.47cm for the length of the back teat respectively. The means obtained were used to plot graphs. From the results, body weight, Abdominal diameter, Height, Circumference of the vulva, length of front teat and middle teat were found to be significantly different (P<O.05) while length of the vulva and back teat were not significant (P>0.05).
