ASBTRACT
This study
was used to determine the microbial implication of hiobased fluid. Lard used in
this was processed after been purchase from local sellers within Umuahia
metropolis. After the samples were cultured on solid media using pour plate
techniques. The bacteria species was identified as Staphylococcus aureus,
Escherichia coli and Salmonella species while the fungi species include Asper
gillus niger and Aspergillus.flavus. Count from the used were higher than those
of the unused samples it was also observed that used sample obtained from
Umuariga junction recorded the highest bacteria and fungal count at 2.26x10°
(CFU/ml) and 2.31x10° and 1.67x10° CFU/ml for bacteria and fungal respectively.
From the finding in this study, it was obtained that the Bacillus spp species
and Escherichia coli was the most frequently occurring isolates with percentage
occurrence of (26.12%), with 4spergillus niger was observed to be the most
predominate and occurring fungi spp at (57.14%). Additive was added to stop rancidity,
corrosion, foaming and improve oxidative stability. The help of this additive
made this fluid better than those available in the market. Statistical analysis
showed that the significant difference between mean count of the used and
unused formulated oil sample at p<0.005
