ABSTRACT
The study investigates the ‘Marketing ofLibrary
and Information Services in Public Libraries: The case ofAbia state Library
Board, Nigeria. The specific objectives ofthis study are; identify library and
information services offered in Abia State library board, identify the needs
for marketing of library and information services in public libraries, inquire
the competencies required of librarians in the marketing of library and
information services in public libraries, examine thefactors affecting
marketing oflibrary and information services in Abia State Library Board,
identify strategiesfor effective marketing oflibrary and information services
in the library. The descriptive survey design was adoptedfor the study,
thepopulation ofthis study will comprise ofall the staffs ofAbia state Library
Board, which is 113, the entirepopulation will be used, there will be no
sampling because thepopulation is small and accessible. The data collection
instrument that will be used in this study will be questionnaire, the data
collected will be analyzed with descriptive statistics ofpercentage, mean scores
and standard deviation. The criterion mean for this study is 2.5. Hence means
response equal to or above the criterion mean (2.5) denotes acceptance level
