ABTRACT
The present study showed the effect of various doses of artemether-lumefantrine in liver homogenate and serum of normal and monosodium glutamate intoxicated rats. MSG toxic induces free radicals though it is a flavor enhancer that enhances the sapidity of foods. Albumin present in the liver is carrier of non enzymatic antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E and Glutathione. Glutathione is one of the most free radicals scavenging antioxidants in the cell. The aim of the study was to determine the concentration of albumin and magnesium in the liver homogenate and serum of normal and monosodium glutamate intoxicated male albino rats cotreated with artemether- lumefantrine.adultbmale albino rats (=30) were divided into (6) groups, each group containing (5) rats having almost the same weight. Group 1 (control); group 2 Therapeutic dose of artemether-lumefantrine (AL); group 3 Overdose (AL); group 4 A known toxicant (MSG); group 5 Therapeutic dose (AL)+ MSG; group 6 Overdose (AL)+ MSG. the procedure of administration was conducted after 2 weeks of acclimatization. The animals were scarified at the end of the 7 days of the experiment and the serum and liver homogenate were taken to the laboratory for further analysis, it was observed that there Was a significantQ,<0.05) decrease in the therapeutic dose group(1.19±0.12), the MSG group(1.17±0.06) and the therapeutic +MSG group (1.20±0.03) when compared with the control group (1.36±0.12) of the albumin in the liver. When the overdose +MSG group (6.87±0.09) was compared with the control group(5.52±0.02) of the albumin in the serum, in conclusion, our data showed that MSG and artemether- lumefantrine induces free radicals that causes oxidative stress in the liver and serum.
