Abstract
This is· a conceptual paper·
which highlights the global ·information flow. pattern' as it affects · Nigeria
(as an example of a developing country). It' posits that the· global
information. flow pattern is unbalanced because · the creation and transfer of
information is almost the . exclusive preserve of the developed countries while
.' developing countries. like Nigeria are grossly limited in · this · respect
and continue to' be dependent. The consequences are · unpalatable, including ·.
huge economic, political and image deficits. 'It, also outlines ' some of the
limitations· to the desire .balance in the. pattern at global information flow
which are summed up as lack of political will and underdevelopment. It suggests
some strategies in the way forward which include · · · research on the
information society, development of digital public library services, affordable
and reliable /CT facilities and· the enactment of a ' . National Information
Policy.
