ABSTRACT
The research critical examined in service
training and development of co-operate performance in the hospitality industry.
Training and development is designed specifically to enhance the knowledge,
performance, ability, skill, effectiveness and efficiency of staff for better
customer's satisfaction, induced demand for the patronage of services, standard
level and above all maximize the hotel's profit. The target population was six
hundred sixty seven but only two fifty fully completed questionnaires were collected
and analysed using simple frequency, percentage and graph. Results from the
data revealed that those selected hospitality organizations offers different
type of training. Among the problems encountered during training and
development were inadequate funds, equipment and training facilities, lack of
qualified instructors and promotion of staff, which is usually based on
favouritism and not by training received. Based on the findings from the study,
it shows that most of the respondents are aware of training and development
policy and also most of the respondents feels that training and development has
help in improving their performance, from demographic data it was revel that
most of the respondent have only senior school certificate and also respondent
are more of male staff. It was recommended that management should provide
adequate equipment and training facilities, allocate more funds as well as
employed skilled and qualified instructors to conduct the training exercise and
motivate their staff by increasing their salary after training and promotion of
staff should be based on training received and not by favouritism.
