Improving The Image Of Academic Liberian Effective Information Service Delivery In A Digital Environment:- Catherine Oluchi U.
ABSTRACT
This article describes the improvement of the
image of academic library in a digital environment as a tool for effective
information service delivery. Effective information service delivery depends on
the attitude of the information manager who is expected to possess all the
qualities needed to attract users to information available for users. Digital
environment makes use of web 2. 0 technologies to provide library services and
information users have high interest in the use of social media tools in
accessing information to meet their information needs. Students in the
universities are always fond of social networking and therefore, information
that must be provided for them should be in the format that will catch their
interest. Digitization of library information resources has brought a lot of
changes in terms of services and activities. Librarians who are responsible for
provision of these services are required to improve on knowledge of the new
process so as to bring changes in the library. They are seen as human resources
in academic libraries and as such, require transferable skills and
interpersonal skills together with attitudinal change towards information
communication technology. As Library is regarded as a growing organization, so
also the librarians are requzred to continue updating and improving on the
knowledge already acquired so that they will be suited to deliver services in
digital age for in hzowledge based society.,
