Impact Of Strategic Management On Public Sector Organisational Performance: A Study Of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
ABSTRACT
The study focused on
the impact of strategic management on public sector organisational performance,
with reference to Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). To carry out
this impact study, the researcher used three specific objectives and three
hypotheses to achieve the broad objective. The specific objectives of the study
were to: ascertain the impacts of NNPC strategic policies on crude oil
production, ascertain the effect of NNPC strategic policy on infrastructural
development on the corporation's financial performance, and determine the
impact of business environment on indigenous technology capabilities of NNPC.
The researcher gathered information through primary and secondary sources of
data. Descriptive Statistics, Multiple Regression analysis and Pearson Product
Moment Correlation were used to analyse the data and test the hypotheses
posited. Major findings revealed that: Strategic policies and business environment
have significant and positive impact on NNPC performance, especially in the
upstream and downstream sector of the corporation. However, the study
recommended that the strategic management policies should be sustained and fine-tune
to amplify crude oil production, in order to enhance the production capacity of
the corporation to meet up with the ambitious targets of achieving 4 million
barrels of crude oil production per day by the year 2020.
