ABSTRACT.

This    study    was    designed   to   examine   the·   impact    of   published   financral statement   on    investors    in   the    bankinq   sector.     It   is   a   case·   study    of shareholders   offirst   bank  of Nigeria   pie.  The data  for  this  study   was  collected by  means   of questionnaire.   For  the  purpose  the  research,  it was  subdivided  into   five  chapters.  Chapter  one  deals   on  the  backqround   to  the  study,   which includes    statement  of  problem,  purpose  of the  study;  objectives  of  the "study, significance of  the  study,   research   questions  and  hypothesis  forrr,ulatl9n,.~tc. Chapter  two  focuses  on  literature  review,   which   borders  on  related   works   of various      professionals     and     intellectuals.     Chapter    three     discusses    the methodology  and  the  statistical   tools   employed.   It also  talks   about.  means of collecting data   and   the  anal  ysis   of  this   data.  Chapter   four   deals  with   .     tfie - presentation  of  analyzed  data  and  hypothesis·  testing   by  the  use  of  statistical   ·      · tools   .of   analysis.   Chapter  five   discusses   the·  research  findings,   conclusion  and recommendation    for   effective   use   of   financial   statement   and   further research. From  the  finding   of this  study,   it was  discovered  that  the  investment decision   of  investors  depends  to  a large  extent   on  their   understanding   of  the financial reports.    Secondly,   the   information   as   contained   in   the   financial statement  needs  to  be  improved.   The  recommendations   made  from   the.  study conducted  is that  since   majority  'Of the  investors  in first   bank  Nigeria   pie  read and  understood  their   financial  statements  very  well.   The  management  of first bank  Nigeria pie  should   be  encouraged  to  even  make  the  copies   available in other Nigerian   languages     other    than    English     language.   However   greater emphasis  should    be  laid  on  the  timely   circulation   of  this  financial  report.   The annual   report   should   also  be made  available  to the  non  investors  of first   bank f\Jigeria pie.  This  will   encourage  them  to  be part  of the  company.
