Impact Of Inflation On Corporate Financial Performance And Decision Making In Nigeria (A Survey Of Selected Companies In Abia State)
ABSTRACT
Inflation can be
defined as a fall in the value of money and a rise in the mone value of the
national income greater than the rise in its real value. It involve much money
chasing few goods in the economy. According to Gold Chridt (2008, inflation is
rising of price of goods due to rising cost of labour and material an this type
is called cost-push inflation. Inflation is heavily borne by low and middt
income earners who go to the same market with the high income earners. It
Nigeria the middle and low income earners constitute an estimate of 80% of thc
population. In Nigeria the rate of inflation is 12.6% which is hyper inflation.
ThE impact of inflation cannot be over-emphasized. This study reveals the
setbacl< companies might face, if proper adjustment is not taken during
inflation or increase in prices of goods and services. This research is
significant in the following fields. In the field of academics, organization and
government etc, the following questions are handed down by the researcher in
order to find solLitions. To what extent and under what condition is inflation
applicable to companies in Nigeria? Will adjusted financial statement provide
better information br decision making during inflation than conventional
financial reports? This research work is focused on the matter related to
company's financial statement and decision making in Business Corporation and
the key people/organizations are the bottling companies and PZ industries in
Aba, Abia State.
